Happy birthday Pepsi

Today is Pepsi’s 14th birthday.

She is such a good dog.  Bill got her when she was 16 months old from the Guide Dogs of the Desert.  She did not graduate to become a guide dog because she was a bit hyper and they thought she could become blind herself.  And they were right!  She was always hyper when she was younger and she has now become blind. However she gets by pretty good.  What we love about her is that she still is a little girl at heart.  Even though she can’t walk very far now or see or hear very well, she still has her wonderful, young spirit.

We love her :)

Today while I ran my 10 miles along the coast, I thought a lot about her.  She  used to run with Bill and I all the time.  In fact, there was a time when Bill took her on LONG mountain bike rides.  She was always up for a run.  Now I have to run alone but I have all of my great memories to keep me company.  Sometimes I think of her and my dear Rottie, we lost him 7 years ago.  He used to run with me too.  It is bittersweet.

So today Pepsi got extra hugs and kisses and extra love.  She also spent sometime on our bed this morning.

Happy Birthday Bear!

Weekend highlights

Where did the weekend go?

How did Sunday get here so fast?

I swear it is just Friday night still……..Oh well at least I have some fun memories to share.

And fun we had!

Saturday Bill and I went on a trail run.  It was kind of a flop but still beautiful out.  We had never done this particular trail and wanted to be adventuresome.  Ehhhh the trail was not so great and we really never felt so good either.

But at least Bill looked cute in his Lululemon gear :)

We ended up only getting in 4 miles but sometimes that is okay.

We came home and buried our sorrows in toasted vegan focaccia from this place with avocado and hot sauce on top.

Which eventually led to this later on.

And then this!

This is a recipe worth sharing and I will blog about it later on this week.

There was also a fun jewelry party thrown in there too with a bunch of fun friends.

Thankfully this morning started out right with some overnight oats and a ride up the coast.

Nothing like 30 miles to shake out the cobwebs and make you feel great!

Now it is time to start some meal prepping for the week.

Oh why can’t weekends be longer?

13.1 miles is special to me

Last night, Bill and I loaded up the car and made the trek back home armed with the good stuff.

We finally arrived home safe and sound.

Vacations are wonderful but there is something to be said about home :)

Luckily I was greeted by a gift I had purchased before we left.

13.1 miles is special to me.

6 months ago I did not think I would be able to run that far without pain.  And now I feel like I can get through that distance anytime.  Sometimes the distance is easy and sometimes it is hard.  But it is never unattainable.  Plus 13.1 miles is just far enough without being a killer like a full marathon.

With that said, today I decided to ride my bike!

How can you pass up 20 miles up the coast looking at this?

And with friends :)

What is your favorite running distance?  Have you been on your bike lately?
