Welcome to my Yoga Studio

So far today has been just the kind of day I needed.

Started with a good cup of joe with some soy creamer:

Caught up on some blog reading :)

Did a couple loads of laundry.

And then had all intentions to go for a run but it was SO windy and I felt so achy and tight from this weeks workouts.

If there is one thing I have learned from years of working out, when you feel tight and achy-practice yoga.

Welcome to my Yoga Studio :)

I did a 45 minute Solar Vinyasa Flow class from Yoga Download.

My body was thanking me the whole time.  By the time I got to Savasana, I felt like I had a massage.  Love that!

After yoga, I got to have Oats in a Jar!

I never get to make this because it seems I never have an almost empty jar of almond butter:

This made me very happy.

Perfection.

Bill just got home from a VERY long ride and we had some pizza for lunch.

Never tried this and loved it!  Definitely a keeper for the frozen and healthy pizza category:

My plate with a slice of pizza topped off with avocado and some carrots and radishes on the side:

I just whipped up these little gems from this recipe:

Bill says, “Delicious!”

Well I am off to the bike shop to pick up some new running socks.  I had Trevor order me my favs.

Then Bill and I are gonna watch, Julie and Julia can’t wait!

Hope you are having a great Saturday as well :)

When Are You at Your Best?

This morning as I was laying in bed I realized I am a morning person.

I bet my mom would not believe it.  She had to drag me out of bed numerous times in my teens at 11am.

But yes, now in my elder years I realize I am a morning person.

  • I think better in the morning.
  • I enjoy working out first thing in the morning.

I just feel more “clear.”

By the afternoon, I have a hard time putting a coherent sentence together. And I definitely do not want to work out or write that long-lost novel!

I would much prefer just pouring myself a glass of wine and making dinner.

What about you?  When are you at your best?  Morning, afternoon, or evening?

Speaking of evening.

This recipe was my motivation last night:

Instead of using true arborio rice, I used this:

Here are the rest of the ingredients:

Which ended up creating this:

It was delicious served in half of a butternut squash:

Topped the warm, delicious carb-of-love with raisins and pistachios.

On another note:

Have you heard of the sweet potato challenge on Running to Slow Things Down?

I got my bag…….now I just have to get creative.

Did you hear that Can You Stay for Dinner got the Sunshine Award?  She really deserves it-in every post you can see her “sunshiny” personality : )

Happy Tuesday Bloggies!

The End is Near

Last night we got a wonderful surprise from my in-laws!  A gorgeous set of linens for our new bed.

Here is what our bed looked like:

We desperately needed something new and colorful.

And now we have something:

It was so wonderful to sleep in! Super soft and luxurious.

We are happy…..

This morning after the wonderful night of rest in our bed, I started with this:

I love drinking coffee with soy creamer in bed while catching up on blogs.

Then Pepsi and I ventured out for our second run this week.  I am so proud of us.  I owe some of my motivation to my blog friends for sure!  All of you and specifically Berni and Mariposa Girl!  Berni is running a half this weekend-I hope to do one in the near future.  It has been too long since I ran a half.

Then I donned my runners (again) and walked to work. Love it! It is such a stress relief and a good time to catch up with friends.

Had breakfast at my desk:

Had my snack a few hours later (almond butter, organic jelly on a rice cake):

Lunch was leftovers and an apple and orange:

Between 5th and 6th period I ate one of my homemade vegan energy bars.

I hope to make some sautéed vegetables of some sort for dinner.  Not exactly sure what is on the menu just yet.

I am off to the bike shop.  “Tabitha” (my bike) needs some TLC.

The end is near-tomorrow is Friday!

Super happy for the weekend.

I hope to get a pedicure-it has been too long.

We are also meeting friends at our favorite wine bar Saturday night.  Not sure what else is going on but so far it looks good.

Do you have any fun plans?

How Do You Eat Healthy?

Today I woke up not as energetic as I usually am.  I think all the rain and all the meetings have finally gotten to me.

Usually I have just one cup of coffee with soy creamer.  Today I knew I was in trouble when a second cup was needed to get me going:

I think just knowing I was in for yet another training in a flourescent lit room made it tough to get going for the day.

Yup here is the room:

I know sitting all day is hard for everyone but I think it is especially hard for teachers.  We are so used to moving around all day.  The thought of sitting for another day was making me crazy!

Anyway, on days like this when I know they are going to provide breakfast and lunch I always bring my own snacks just in case.

This is what they had for breakfast:

This is actually not so bad.  At least there were no costco muffins!  I still chose to eat this:

I think I may have converted some people to green monsters!

I was very “snacky”  all day due to boredom.

I ate this:

Lunch was served at noon and they provided us with various subway sandwich boxes.  The boxes contained a sandwich, chips, and cookie.

I chose the veggie sandwich.  There were not many veggies on it! I did not eat the chips or cookie.

After lunch I snacked on an unpictured homemade energy bar.

Now I am home after having a lovely glass of cabernet with my friend, Jamie.

Thanks Jamie!

I can’t wait to dig into my dinner:

I was wondering…..

How do you eat healthy in these types of situations?

Do you “wing it”  or do you bring all your own food?
