Do You Thrive on Routine?

The last few days have been too busy and too rainy

This has changed my normal routine quite a bit.  Instead of being able to walk to work everyday, I have had to drive because of the rainy weather and because of too many afternoon meetings and work related events.

Today is no different.  As I type this, I am wondering how I am going to get out for my normal run without getting myself and Pepsi soaked to the bone.  Some mornings it has actually stopped raining and I have had a rain free workout.  So far, it does not look good.

My husband and I are both routine oriented people.  We (especially me) get comfort from daily and weekly routines.

Since this week has thrown my routine for a loop, I have sought routine from normal eats.

These items have kept me comforted and happily fed through this crazy and too busy week.

Green monsters paired with hot tea always get my day going in the right direction:

Big salads with lots of grilled vegetables are a weekly staple even when it is cold out:

More grilled vegetables served on brown rice:

I also tried a new recipe this week.  I call it Multi-Vegetable Chili.  Really good!

Well, I hope you are staying dry and warm.  I am off to brave the elements………

Have a great day!

Smoothie Friday

My walking buddies and I have declared Friday’s “Smoothie Friday.”  This is the day we allow ourselves a special smoothie from a place called Juice and Java.  It makes Friday seem a bit more special and gives you something to look forward to all week.  But before I share my smoothie…..

Here is the salad I made us for dinner last night.

Started with some greens:

Added some salad staples:

Added some salad fun  (love raisins and nuts and steamed broccoli):

The finished product with some hummus and veggie burgers:

Served on my favorite plate.  Got these plates ions ago in Colorado.  Little bit of mountains at the beach!

Oh yes, well back to SMOOTHIE FRIDAY-the best day of the week!

This one is called PB and J-it had mixed berries, peanut butter, ice and spirulina.  It was good.  You should try it!

Here is my snack today:

And here is lunch.  I ended up eating only one orange.

And now the weekend awaits.  What do you have planned?

Fail to Plan, Plan to Fail

Before I met my husband, I had tried Body for Life from Bill Phillips a few times.  Body for Life was an easy program for me to follow and I still believe in its power to help people achieve fitness.

However, until I met my husband, I never had the support to really live a healthy, fit life for life!  One of the things I have learned from Bill Phillips  is you have to plan your meals daily so you never run out of food and end up eating something you shouldn’t or really don’t want to.

Even though, my husband and I do not actively practice Body for Life now, we still keep the guiding principles in mind when living our “healthy” life style.

Meal planning is key, especially if you work all day.  You must pre-package your breakfast and lunch and snacks on a daily basis.  Trust me-you do no want to get hungry and turn to junk instead of what you would rather eat (hopefully something good and healthy).

So Sunday nights are usually the time we set aside to pre-package  Breakfasts.  My husband likes to prepare his oatmeal for the whole week.  Since I bring Green Monster Shakes I do not pre-package-I just make them in the morning.

It is so good!  I usually eat my oats on the weekends (can’t wait!).

In ready for work containers:

Last night while he was doing this.  I was preparing our Moroccan Grilled Veggie Salad.

Here are the vegetables:

Chopped and ready to be roasted:

I roasted them in this pan

Basically you roast the veggies in olive oil, salt and pepper, and thyme.

Put them on a bed of lettuce.  I added avocado and beans:

Add the dressing, made from olive oil, mustard, red wine vinegar, saffron, and raisins.

Here is the finished product.  It was a really good dinner and made a great lunch for us today too.

The complete recipe is posted under my recipe page.  Hope you will try it!
