A Little of This

Boy my 50 miler yesterday was fun and challenging :)

Ever since then I have been doing a little of this and a little of that but mostly resting and recuperating.

First of all we received a fabulous box of goodies from Newman’s Own Organics:

Look at all the goodies!

You know I can’t resist sharing some of these with you so stay tuned for a giveaway Tuesday morning :)

We could not wait to try some of the products so this morning we created a fun “oatmeal bar”:

Yum Oats!

Khrystle thanks for the beautiful bowl :)

Later on,  Bill and I headed to Ojai for a fun impromptu lunch:

The grocery items were very expensive but we couldn’t resist some homemade granola and a Kombucha with our salad:

So far the weekend has been great and I still have one more day left-yay.

I look forward to catching up on my blog reading and seeing what you all have been up to.

Hope you are having a great weekend too.

Happy Sunday friends :)

Am I Healthy?

I often wonder if the foods I choose to eat everyday are as healthy as I think they are.

Do you ever wonder that?

There are so many conflicting facts and studies out there that sometimes you have to wonder, “Am I Healthy?”

Lately, I have been visiting blogs that have been talking about NuVal.

NuVal is a nutritional company that rates foods on a 1 to 100 scale based on their “healthfulness.”

If you read Tina’s blog, you might have heard of NuVal.

I was lucky enough to get contacted by Melissa from A Better Bag of Groceries to rate some of my food.  Today she rated my Green Monster Shake so please head on over and check it out!  I wonder what it got rated as?!

Speaking of Green Monsters I have had a break from then lately, instead of I have been revisiting my dear beloved oatmeal.

It is tough to make oatmeal in the morning for me though because I am always in such a rush in the mornings.

  • Must blog
  • Walk Pepsi
  • Get ready for work
  • Walk to work

I thought I would share with you how I make my oats so I can take them nice and hot with me to work.

I put everything into the saucepan-steel cut oats, apples, bananas, pinch of salt, and cinnamon:

Set the stove top temp to about a 4 and head out to walk Pepsi.  By the time I get back they are cooked!

Then I put the oats in a Tupperware and add some raisins and I am good to go to eat my breakfast at my desk :)

How do you make your oats when you are in a rush?

Oh I just remembered it is April 1…….

Have a Happy April Fool’s Day!

Tonight I am meeting Khrystle for our hill workout. Can’t wait to see what she has under her sleeves for me :)

See you later gators!

The Good, The Bad, and The Pretty

Last night Bill made us a pasta dinner for my pre race fuel :)

He is a master in the kitchen and he even took pics of his masterpiece:

Organic pasta with onions, sun dried tomatoes, zuccini, and olives

It was delicious.

This morning before he got on his new bike he had this bowl of yum:

Oatmeal with almond butter and agave

And I had this before my race:

So about the race……….

The Good:

  • ran 6.2 miles
  • the route was awesome along the water
  • finished in 58:22 (9:22 average)
  • placed 8th in my age group
  • ran into a student of mine:

My student, Brian and me :)

He rocked the race averaging 8:35 miles!

The Bad:

  • felt horrible the whole time
  • relived my breakfast the whole race
  • wanted to go faster but could not

Overall, I am happy with my average pace.  I used to be really slow and averaging 9:22 per mile is good FOR ME.

I want to go faster now :)

I guess I should start training :(

On to The Pretty:

Failed Attempt

Well Operation Antioxidant was a complete failure.

I woke up feeling WORSE than I have felt all week.  I guess two glasses of wine does not cure a cold!

First thing I did before having my cup of coffee:

was call Mom and Dad to cancel my trip down South. Maybe tomorrow I will go.

Then I came downstairs and made myself  an amazing bowl of oats.  I think oats can make anyone feel good.  I started the oats cooking and cut up some bananas and apples:

Added them in to the mixture (oats and cinnamon):

This little one was sad none of the apples dropped to the floor:

Oh holy goodness-Look at my bowl:

I added more bananas on top, flax seed, a bit of agave, almond milk and almond butter.

Does anyone else enjoy oatmeal pics as much as I do?

If you do you MUST check out this Tribute to Oatmeal page on Kath’s Blog.

After my breakfast and shower I put on my new shirt:

Got it at my favorite Wine Bar.

and new ring:

And then headed out the door for some fresh air.  Gosh I wish I could run or ride my bike.

Pepsi and I walked around the neighborhood nice and slow and then stopped in at our favorite bike shop on the way back home.

We just got home and I made a “super cold-fighting” shake for lunch.  This is what it had in it (plus spinach):

Now I am going to sit outside in the glorious, warm sun with a cup of tea and my new book (The China Study).

Does anyone know if drinking herbal tea is as good as drinking water?

Hope you all have a great day!  Enjoy the sunny weather if you are reading from the West Coast.
