Starting to feel like home

Bill and I moved from Reno, Nevada to Ventura, California about 5 years ago.

We left a very close-knit group of friends that we had cultivated after many years of living there and that centered around cycling.  We loved our friends and the community but eventually we ended up hating the snow and really wanted a change.

We chose heaven Ventura.

We love the weather, the outdoor options, our jobs, and the location.

And finally we feel as if we have started to make good friends like we had in Reno.  It takes a while when you get older ;)

Yesterday we got to join our cycling friends for a fun cycling themed afternoon.

What could be better than italian food, italian wine, italian bikes and friends?

The food:

The wine:

Bikes!

of all kinds……I think Bill was smitten with this one in particular:

And of course…….friends.

We have to say we finally feel like Ventura is home :)

And the icing on the cake?  We got to walk to and from the bike shop!  That makes it even better.

We’re thankful

This morning while I was trail running:

And Bill was riding:

We realized how very lucky we are……

And we are thankful.

I am thankful for having an amazing husband who makes everyday fun.

I am thankful to have a silly dog that even though she is old, deaf and blind now she still loves her momma and brings joy to my life.

I am thankful to have amazing and supportive in-laws who will eat all kinds of crazy food for the sake of us :) .

And I am thankful for blog friends like you guys who keep me grounded and motivate me to be the best I can be everyday. Oh and Bill says he is thankful of that too.

And that he is thankful for his bike.

Oh and yes……I am thankful for this cute running skirt.

Wait until you hear about it ;)

Happy Thanksgiving friends!

Occupy wall street or not?

Bill and I live in a small town by the ocean half way between Los Angeles and Santa Barbara.

We love it here.

There is definitely a small town-beachy feel and there is not one Wal-Mart.  Yay for no corporate box giants!

Well I can’t say that.  We do have Target but for some reason I don’t hate Target as much as Wal-Mart.  Maybe it is what Wal-Mart stands for.

Anyway, we try to do our share when it comes to supporting our little beach town.

We buy local when we can:

  • I only buy my running shoes from Inside Track instead of ordering on-line.
  • We are part of a food share which allows us to eat local organic veggies and fruits.
  • We frequent local farmers markets.
  • Bill buys his bikes and bike clothes from the local bike shop.
  • We try to eat out in our town and support the local restaurants whenever possible but we need more vegan choices in town :)
  • On the weekends we park our cars, and try to walk more rather than driving.
  • We bought a home downtown instead of the burbs so we could walk everywhere.

Somethings that we could improve upon are:

  • recycling
  • buying and driving fuel-efficient cars-Im attached to my SUV!

What about you?  Are you against corporate america?  Would you prefer a simpler life? How do you contribute to going local?

What i did this weekend

This had been one of those good weekends when the sun is shining and all seems right in the world :)

Actually, I think I feel like that most of the time…..but this weekend was good nonetheless.

Let’s see…….

I rode my bike a total of 68  miles.  50 with friends and another 18 this morning rocking out to my ipod.

I had a fabulous pasta feast with my husband.

I ate some amazing oat bran loaded with all kinds of delicious mixins.

I spent lots of quality time snuggling this face.

Had a fabulous night on the town with new friends.

And drank some delicious wine.

How was your weekend?

Any fun plans for the coming week?
