A Smoothie, a Run, and the Big 4 0

What a glorious morning it has been already.

Woke up, drank coffee, read blogs, and took Pepsi for a walk.

Then went on a beautiful run along the beach with Khrystle.

We took a nice easy pace while chit-chatting the whole way.  Doesn’t running with friends make the time fly?

We completed 5.6 miles-I was just hoping to get in 4 miles!  Running with friends really helps.

Here are our stats:

Then I came home and made an amazing birthday smoothie I would call it the cherry, chocolate bomb:

Yup those are chocolate chips in there!  I made the smoothie with almond milk, a banana, a scoop of chocolate Vega powder, frozen berries, and chocolate chips.

Happy Birthday to me!

Yum! :)

And Happy Birthday to my bloggy friend, Berni!

There sure are a lot of Birthdays this month.  My friends Sara and Khrystle were March 1, Berni and I are March 12, two workmates are March 13 and 18, and I just found out another friend and blogger is Monday.  Happy Early Birthday Mark!

Well I am off to shower……it is Sister Day!  My sis is picking me up in a bit and we have a fun day planned.

Hope you will come back to see what we were up to :)

Happy Friday!

Do you know anyone with a Birthday in March too?

A Revelation

Last night while I was looking up my results for the 5K I completed yesterday I had a revelation.

This was the last race I would do as  a “thirty something” girl.

Yikes…….

The Big 4 0 is looming on the horizon and fast approaching.

I know my blog is called Fit and Forty Something and you might be thinking, “Hey I thought she was forty!”

Well I created this blog on January 1 to help me get used to the idea that I was soon to be (sooner rather than later) a forty something gal.  I was hoping this blog would make the  transition to being forty a little less painful.

This Friday is the BIG DAY when I finally put on my big boy pants and face the world as an adult.

Yes this Friday is my 40th Birthday-gulp.

No more “thirty something” races.  The next race I do will be as my forty-year old self.

I think I am ready……..

Back to the race:

I got 6th place and my official time was 25:24!!!

I can assure you that was not me-I have never run that fast.

Or maybe it was me running away from the Big 4 0!

What birthdays have been significant for you and why?

On to some food:

We had a great Curried Lentil dish made with onions, garlic, tomatoes, light coconut milk, lentils, and curry.  I will post the recipe soon.

I served it in half a butternut squash and topped it with Brussel sprouts and cashews:

It was delicious!

Have a great Monday my friends : )

Entering the 21st Century

Today has turned out to be a fun and technologically savvy day!

Breakfast was a delicious bowl of oatmeal with rice milk, almond butter and organic preserves:

Then I walked Pepsi to the dog park.  This is the view from the park:

After that I  went for an hour run.  I so wish I could take Pepsi with me.  But she is getting up in age and it is too much for her.

So I left her on her bed with her bone:

I felt pretty good on my run.  Could it be the Bovine colostrum I have been taking?

Then I came home and had lunch and some snacks:

Then the fun began

My husband came home and we went to the AT&T store and FINALLY got iPhones!!!!  Finally us old folks got with the 21st century!  Taylor thank you for all of your help and patience.  We are super happy!

Love my pink “sleeve.”  Here is “fit and forty something” on the phone in the car!  CRAZY!

Then we celebrated at an awesome vegan restaurant called, Mary’s Secret Garden.  It is beyond deliciousness.

I ordered the organic Pinot Noir.  My husband had the coconut water and we shared some whole wheat pita bread (warm and yummy).

Yes he IS playing with his iPhone in the background!

I had the unfried falafel pita with some sort of delicious dipping sauce:

We shared a raw smoothie on the drive home.  It had cacao nibs, coconut milk, medjool dates, and a banana.

So satisfying…….

Off to enjoy the rest of the evening.

I hope to upload a garmin application for running.  Does anyone have this on their iPhone?
