Today was a somewhat uneventful day.

Woke up. Walked Pepsi. Drove to work.

Hate driving but had an appointment after work that I could not walk to.

Worked. Went to appointment. Came home. Glad to be home!

As promised I wanted to share yet another energy bar recipe (yes I am obsessed). This time I got it from this lovely lady.

She tweaked her recipe and I tweaked it further.

Started with the good stuff:

1 Ripe Banana (mashed)
1.5 c Oats
1/2 c Shredded Unsweetened Coconut
1/2 c Raisins
1/2 c Agave
1/2 c Raw Almond Butter
2 Tbsp Flax Meal
1.5 Tsp Cinnamon
1 Tsp Vanilla Extract

Mixed it all up and put it in the pan:

Instead of freezing the bars for an hour, I baked them for 30 minutes at 400 degrees. The house smelled divine!

They turned out delicious BUT are falling apart. I wonder if I should add an egg white to help them stay together?

Any recommendations?

They are still quite good and package up nicely.

Speaking of appointment, yes it was that time again to get my you-know-whats flattened out like a pancake in the name of breast cancer prevention.

I only mention it on this blog, because I am curious as to what you think of mammograms? Some people say they cause cancer. Some people believe in thermography instead. Some people think none of it works.

What do you think?

Already looking forward to tomorrow because I can walk to work!

Have a great night.

I have been hearing a lot of information lately about the benefits of eating an alkaline diet versus acidic diet.

Apparently cancer cells thrive in acidic environments as other diseases do too. By eating certain foods, you can increase the alkalinity in your body and decrease the acidity.

I was first introduced to this idea while reading the book, Thrive. In fact, I switched a few things up in my diet because of his research. I switched from whey protein to hemp protein. I introduced coconut oil into my diet along with my staple of olive oil. And I have played around with making my own energy bars and soon will try to make my own “gels.”

I have also introduced “green” food supplements such as amazing grass into my diet on a daily basis.

Most vegetables produce an alkaline environment while most processed foods and meats create an acidic environment in our bodies.

I would like to further research whether our vitamins are working against the alkalinity in our diets as well.

What do you think?

I am off to walk Pepsi and either ride my bike or get out for a run. It has finally stopped raining!

Okay, so I have mentioned before how we love energy bars and such. However it can be quite a costly endeavor to keep our stash at optimum.

Therefore, I have been experimenting with making my own to save my husband and I some money.

I decided to start simple by using the recipe posted by my dear friend and fellow fitness enthusiast, Khrystle at www.activeventura.com

Here are the ingredients I used:

As you can see these bars call for very few items. You can also add chocolate chips. Khrystle recommends whey protein-I went with Hemp which may not be as tasty.

The finished product:

So easy, so simple, so cheap, and so good!

Please check out www.activeventura.com for the complete recipe.

Off to start the day…….
