Pizza Pizza and a 5K

Yesterday Bill made pizza dough during the day.

The kitchen was his laboratory:

He has been experimenting with different dough recipes and I have been the lucky recipient : )

Look at that dough:We ended up making his and hers pizza slices last night while watching Dexter.

His:Hers:

And then just to make sure I was fueled properly for my 5K we had dessert pizza:

I cannot even tell you how good this was!

Bill melted vegan chocolate chips and spread them on already cooked slices of dough.

Here is my piece with almond butter for dipping:

That was a “foodgasm” as The Fitnessista would say!

I think the pizza-pizza really did fuel me properly. Because I awoke this morning ready to tackle my first race in a little less than a year.

Unfortunately my partner in crime was not quite ready.  Her friends surprised her with a day of wine tasting yesterday and she was not feeling the 5K today but she did it anyway and she did great!

It was a bit chilly but perfect for running.  The course was flat and was an out and back.  I felt really good and even felt good at the beginning which I don’t normally do.

We have no official results but I think I came in a round 25 minutes (which is pretty fast for me!) and Khrystle came in under 24 minutes.  I will post the results when I get them.

We had an awesome time!

We love our shirts!

The food was great too:

I am so glad I got up and out of bed to do this 5K.

Thank you to all of my bloggy friends and Khrystle for motivating me!

It was definitely the highlight of my weekend!

What was your “highlight?”

Are You Deficient?

Yesterday I left work early to head to a doctor’s appointment.

This was my follow-up from my last appointment where I gave blood for a nutritional panel.

My doctor is a Medical Doctor but she tends to lean towards a Holistic approach to medicine-believing that many “aliments” can be caused and therefore treated by deficiencies in your blood specifically vitamin and nutrient deficiencies.

I found out that I am deficient in:

  • magnesium
  • selenium
  • zinc
  • vitamin D

Here is my course of treatment for now:

She also recommended some other things like:

  • eat a bit of protein as soon as you wake up to “break the fast” and then have coffee
  • DRINK MORE WATER-so hard when you are a teacher and can only use the bathroom at certain times!
  • cut back on the refined carbs-duh-I know…..easier said than done

I am a work in progress……  : )

Then I came home to this face:

And had a gorgeous salad beast with my husband.

The star of the show:

Not as good as the last egg white salad.  Probably would not buy this one again.

Good glass of vino:

Watched an episode of Dexter.

Walked Pepsi.

And hit the hay.

Hope you had a great Hump Day!

Do you ever wonder if you are taking vitamins that you do not even need?

New Products

Yesterday I had a very exciting day of trying two new products.

You know me I tend to eat the same old stuff day in and day out so to me two new things in one day is BIG!

The morning started off with my typical green monster shake however there were some changes.

Instead of using Amazing Grass I used my new Vega Whole Food Optimizer:

I have been wanting to try this product for a while now.  I like the idea that it has all the “green” food plus maca plus chlorella and protein all in one.  And vegetarian sources of protein to boot.

I ended up using one scoop of Vega, almond milk, almond butter, flax seed, 1 banana and frozen berries:

I think this morning I will use half of scoop instead and omit the almond butter and add spinach.

It was very thick and much more filling than my usual mix.  But it tasted good!

Last night our dinner was created around this second new product:

My mother in law from Fit and Sixty turned us on to these egg white salads.  They have quite a few varieties at TJ’s.  We decided this one would be good in a salad.

First I made a delicious mix of all things veggie:

Bill sautéed some asparagus in an olive oil blend:

Topped the salad with sun-dried tomatoes and the egg white salad mix:

All together now with the asparagus:

It was delicious!

We ate while catching up on some Dexter episodes.

Any Dexter fans out there?

Have you tried any worthy new products lately I should know about?

Hope you have a great Tuesday!
