On again off again

Why is it that some weeks you feel like you are on FIRE and others you don’t?

Last week was one of those weeks that I felt unstopable when it came to my running and working out in general.

In fact, I ran four 7 mile runs in a row and then rode my bike 68 miles and then ran again 5 miles on Sunday.

This week-not so much.

It’s been tough and I have struggled with my mileage for 2 reasons:

  • my body has been talking to me and telling me slow down you are in pain
  • and I have not had as much motivation

So my week has looked like this so far:

  • Monday: off
  • Tuesday: 3 miles
  • Wednesday: 4.5 miles with hills
  • Thursday (today): 6 miles on the coast

  • Tomorrow I hope to run 7 miles and Saturday get in a good bike ride.

We shall see though I feel hopeful :)

Do you have on again off again weeks or is it just me?

Do you listen to your body when it is talking or do you ignore it?

Now that I am in my forties I realize I better listen or my aches will turn into injuries!

On another note, I won this book from Linda’s giveaway!

Super excited to read it this weekend.

The vegan challenge update

A few weeks ago I blogged about our 30 day vegan challenge.  So far it has been going okay.

Eating vegan for Bill and I is very easy when we eat at home which is 99% of the time.

We eat lots of giant salads with beans, rice, veggies, healthy fats and nutritional yeast.

We also eat lots of kale and sometimes tofu.

It’s when we go out that we have more of a challenge.

Last Saturday night after our big ride, Bill surprised me with a trip to our favorite vegetarian place.

We LOVE this place.

It is located in a small town.  They have a lovely outdoor seating area. And the menu is suited for vegetarians and vegans alike. I am all about vegan but when I see a pizza that has bleu cheese or goat cheese on it I have a hard time turning it down.

We partook.

It was delicious.  The good thing is that they go very easy on the cheese and big on the veggies.

So easy that I did not feel the least bit sick.

So I would have to say our vegan challenge is going well except for the occasionally cheese consumption.

Has anyone else had a hard time giving up cheese completely?  We eat is so rarely, I almost feel like it is something we do not have to give up.  Sometimes it feels right :)

Forgiveness

Today I read a thought provoking post from Lindsay over at Cotter Crunch.  Her and her husband are in New Orleans getting ready to race.  But her post was about the 80/20 rule.

She says that 80 % of the time she is on and 20 % she is off.  I am assuming she is like me and 80 % of the time you eat clean, you work out, you feel positive and then 20% of the time you cut yourself some slack and eat cake, drink wine, rest, and recover and sometimes lay in bed all day :)

I like this way of thinking.  It allows you some forgiveness in this mad rush of a world where we are expected to be perfect or darn near perfect!

For me being perfect means:

  • being “on” at work
  • working out
  • eating clean
  • skipping on the wine

But sometimes we can be 20 % ;)

With that said my 80% looked like this this week:

  • 3-6 mile  runs in the dead of morning.  Starts out dark but becomes beautiful with early morning light before the run is up.
  • lots of veggie filled salads and smoothies in a bowl
  • and lot’s of sleep to recover from long days

Hopefully I will have some 20% this weekend.  Bill says he has a surprise outing for me on Saturday night.

Can’t wait!

Can you relate to the 80/20 rule?

Thanks for that post Lindsay!  I obviously loved it :)   And I hope James does well this weekend.

We feel honored

We won an award!

Bill and I really enjoy the All Season’s Cyclist Blog and have been awarded from David the Kreativ Blogger Award.

We feel honored :)

When you receive this award you must share 7 things about you.  So I thought it may be fun to share 7 things about Bill and I.

So here they are:

1. We love to go to bed early.  Yup we are one of those couples who get excited when they can be in bed by 8pm.  Which of course leads us to liking to get up early in the morning.

2. We love to work out-duh!.  Bill and I always do a workout in the morning.  Most of the time he rides and I run but sometimes we run races together or just walk Pepsi.

3. We love wine though I think I love it more ;)

4.  We met because we both loved cycling.

5.  We have separate last names.  I never changed mine when we got married but I am thinking of changing it now.  Why not?  I like his last name :)

6.  Our bucket list includes a trip to Italy, a new home in Colorado with some land, and a baby rottweiler.

7.  Some people mistake us for brother and sister.  Weird?  Yes a bit but they do say you are attracted to people who look like you.

Thank youDavid!  We really enjoyed doing this.

Now we need to nominate some folks……

How about Heather and Lindsay and Christine!

Have a great Wednesday friends :)
