This week has been a good one on the learning curve for this “old lady.”
As most of you know, I have learned to be mindful and do workouts that are good for my body and I have learned what my body needs to eat to feel good.
Since I finished up my 21 day HCG diet, I have been experimenting with what works for me.
The first few weeks I enjoyed my beloved carbs in abundance eating hearty and good dinners like oat bran (love!) and gluten-free pastas. You see I much prefer to eat veggies and grains until the cows come home. I would probably be most happy eating a vegan diet of carbs, grains, beans, veggies and hummus. Unfortunately, I have tried this and my body does not appreciate it. I tend to put on weight easy and have lots of tummy issues.
This last week, I have gone back to eating most of my carbs for the day in the form of oats or oat bran in the morning.
And sticking with salads or veggies and a protein for lunch and dinner with some healthy fats like tahini, or other nuts.
In turn, I feel lighter, more alert and I have dropped a few of the poounds I wanted to. I am happily down to 122 this morning.
Funny………I know my sis does better with more carbs. And now I know I do better with less.
What about you? When do you feel best?

It’s so exciting to figure out stuff like that. I find I have to change it up now and again…you know…hormones and stuff. How about you? Or can you keep it pretty much the same all the time?
I love pasta but I know I do better without it. Wish I was one of those who could hvae it all day long!
i wish i could eat pasta all day long too!
I do better when I’m eating carbs from sources like sweet potatoes (veggies) really. I don’t just love pasta and bread though so that works out. I could probably eat more grains in my diet though.
I think I do better with less and my tummy feels better for sure with less. I’m trying to just have them once a day whether it’s oatmeal at lunch or quinoa or brown rice pasta with dinner. Yesterday I splurged and ate a treat called a jammer that someone brought in for me at work (think buttery biscuit filled with jam) and boy am I paying for it. I guess there is a reason I chose to be GF/DF!
It is absolutely true that everyones bodies are so different and react differently to foods. My body feels best on about 50-60% of my diet in carbs. It also depends on how much I’m working out. I feel awful on too much dairy and too much meat though so I try to limit both of those things.
I think I do better with more carbs. I have been experimenting with more protein and less carbs, and it stresses me out. And I’ve gained weight.
But I do have to be careful about carbs, they are a slippery slope for me. My current “bikini bootcamp” diet is relatively low on carbs (lots of fruit and beans, no bread and few grains). We’ll see how that goes.
Food choice doesnt seem to affect me that much, but quantity does. Too full or too hungry, and I feel terrible. Same goes for exercise. When I’m not active, my body aches and begs me to MOVE.
I’m in the midst of trying to figure this out for me. I’ve realized I need more fat/protein and probably less carbs…but haven’t worked out the mix yet!
I figured out that since I’ve been doing yoga (its been a few months) I sleep MUCH MUCH better. Have a great day Kalli.
do much better with more protein and vegetables, water.. love bread, wine, water…gotta find the balance~
I totally wanted to gobble up your oats in that picture – I’m craving raspberries now!
oh, how i love carbs….but, i fully think that i feel better without them.
I do better with more cards, but most are from fruits and veggies lately. I do love carbs, but my insides tend to be unhappy when I eat too many.
All righty, ladies…for me it is more about what I don’t eat: Top of the list, no animal protein 99%. Just can’t do it anymore. Body sent a loud (and painful) wake-up call in November 2008.
As for my carbs, they are the unrefined ones, consumed in their natural state: fresh fruits, legumes, root vegetables, and beans. My body doesn’t seem to “need” protein to work at its peak. In fact, I’m healthier and migraine-free having since completely given it up.
As for pasta, OMgoodness, I could dive into a bowl and live out eternity there. Oh, time to wake up. Not going there.
Anyway, so far so good, eating to live.
for me it’s becoming obvious I can eat carbs; just have to be careful what kind.
a yam can fuel me for hours and all bread wants to do is make me go to sleep (and bloat)
I love your eating style…
I am still fine tuning mine…but the cleaner I eat, the happier I am, better and lighter I feel without too many stomach issues.
and I love pasta too but I am finding brown rice pasta is great and others bloat me!
weird!
