Build Your Own Breakfast

As I mentioned earlier this week, I love the free breakfast at hotels especially when they have some good staples like oats and bananas.

Since Bill is working everyday, we have been enjoying our little breakfasts together before he leaves in the morning.

Our ritual looks like this:

We start with a bowl of oatmeal and raisins.  Not as good as steel cut but it will do:

Then we add in some hotel mix-ins (strawberries, granola, bananas):

And then we add the one thing we brought because we cannot live without it right now :)

Yes I stow this baby in my purse for emergencies!

And now the delicious final product:

And there is Bill’s-Isn’t he handsome in his work attire?

Wish he could stay and play with me :(

What is the one food you must bring when you travel?

Have a great day!

I am off to run and then play………..

  1. Glad you and Bill are enjoying your trip!

    Nuttzo is GOOD ;)

  2. Yes he is very handsome in his work duds! I usually pack fruit or something in my purse when I know we’ll be away from the homestead for awhile. :)

  3. I must take apples and tea when I travel. I keep a stash of each in my classroom fridge too!

  4. Ketchup. I know, but when you are on the road you’d be suprised how many times it fixes food that just doesn’t work. :)

  5. I am taking individual PB packets as well as lower-sugar instant oatmeal (not what I’d normally go for, but on travels, it works). I also keep a stash of Kashi bars in my purse at all times. A girl gets hungry you know ;-)

  6. I adore that you brought peanut butter.

I always pack along nutrition/granola bars for a pinch. If I don’t need them, inevitably someone else will.

  7. haha, I’ve traveled with my NuttZo too! If I don’t then its packet of justin’s nut butters. I also pack chocolate amazing grass to put in my oats or yogurt. YUMMY!

  8. I don’t bring any foods with me on vacation. Unless, of course, I’m driving there, in which case I bring some food for the trip.

  9. I love that picture and his breakfast looks flipping amazing!!

  10. If we are driving by car…..I bring my kitchen….if traveling by plane…whatever I can squeeze into my suitcase!( usually protein powder/vitiamins)

  11. I have to bring some clif bars and larabars — you never know when you’ll need something! I actually usually bring a mini cooler full of fruits and veggies, in case the hotel doesn’t have much.

  12. I bring everything but-the-kitchen-sink…and still stop and pick stuff up…ridiculous…there’s something about being on the road that scream M&M’s and candy and chocolate milk to me – don’t judge.

Hotel breakfasts are dangerous!! You do much better than me hah – I take everything.

  13. I always bring a nut butter!

  14. I always ‘borrow’ food from hotel breakfasts for later in the day, like a banana or an apple or I wrap up a bagel in a napkin.

Whenever I travel, I pack granola bars and almonds.

Where did you get the nut butter??? I just posted on my blog how the blog world has introduced me to new peanut butters and one blogger and I did a trade :)

  15. I usually pack bars with me..Larabar or KIND. If it ends up being a long time before I get food, I like having a back up snack.

  16. How flippin cute is that pic. Nature Valley or Kashi granola bars always seem to end up finding their way to my purse.

  17. What a fantastic way to dress up hotel oats! Yum!

  18. I like to keep shelf stable fruits around: bananas, apples, oranges, etc.

  19. I really have 2, apples and peppermint tea.:)

  20. Haha, love it! I call my purse the Mary Poppins bag because I carry so many weird things in it like nut butter!

And yes, he looks very handsome. Good thing you finally put a ring on him!

  21. That is so funny that you mention hotel breakfast! My mom and I were searching for a hotel to stay at in NYC the other day and I was just looking for the best deal with a free airport shuttle. I found the perfect one and was about to hit the “Reserve” button when my mom says, “do they have a hot breakfast?”…a what? And yeah, not just any breakfast…a HOT one. Thus, the hotel search is still on…

  22. i’d bring green smoothies if i could! I’ll be on vacation in 2 weeks and im definitely bringing homemade bars and avocados!

  23. I bring individual packets of PB and jam, stolen from past trips :P Funny thing is, I almost never eat them together!

  24. ah nuttzo is terrific!

i always bring protein bars with me – they make a great breakfast or dessert!

  25. Hey girl!!!! Looks like you have been enjoying your summer :) I cannot travel without some Larabars, they are so easy to travel with and come in handy when you want a quick and healthy snack.

  26. I LOVE hotel breakfast! Especially oatmeal and omelettes…and nothing beats hotel coffee at a Marriott.

I don’t travel without almonds and protein powder. Ever!

  27. Hi Kalli,
Looks like you are having a great time.
Of course, I travel with Jumpstarter bodyfuel bars, almond butter (try it on top of Jumpstarter bar cranberry), nuts.
    Linda
