Run to the Music

One of the things I love about staying in a hotel other than the free breakfast :) , is the opportunity I get to jump on a treadmill.  Since I do not belong to a gym I look forward to using a treadmill from time to time.

Yesterday I checked out the hotel gym and was pleasantly surprised by how nice it is (sorry iPhone pics):

I know some of you might be shaking your head in disgust but I actually LOVE the treadmill.

Look at this beauty:

I attribute this love to the fact that you can get a really sweaty workout in a short amount of time.  You can also “shake things up.”  For example you can do HIIT workouts-love these with a passion-or you can do what I did this morning and “run to the music.”

What is “run to the music”  you ask?

It is when you run the pace a song designates.  For example, when a slower song comes on you run a slower pace for the duration of the song and when a fast song comes on like Metallica-one of my favs-you run fast for the whole song.  I love running to the music because it makes the time fly by :)

Are you a treadmill hater or lover like me?

Do you ever run to the music?

After I finish this delicious bar:

Yum Yum Yum……

I am gonna paint this town red!  Hee Hee…….

Maybe do some shopping and maybe catch a flick-can you believe I still have NOT seen Eclipse?  It is a crime I tell you.  I have read the book TWICE!  I know I need to grow up :)

Have a great day friends!

You don’t need to grow up! I love the books. Though New Moon was my least fave book though. I still haven’t seen Eclipse either. I’m a Netflix newbie so I’ll be checking it out on there!

I am not a huge fan of the treadmill however, I totally agree it does shake things up and you get the awesome HIIT workout on it. THAT I do love.

Ok…I have not been on a treadmill in a couple of years, but that would be fun. I like having something to keep me on pace.

Grow up? Why??? Yes, you must see the movie. I’ve seen it 3 times and would gladly go again. :-)

Those bars look yummy. Are they at Lassens?

  3. I use my treadmil and like it….it has the incline UP to 40 percent so that makes it a challenge and that means sweat!

  4. greensandjeans says:

I haven’t seen Eclipse yet either! I have Wednesday and Thursday off and I was thinking it could be a great middle of the day thing to do

  5. I LOVE free breakfasts! It’s the first thing I look for in a hotel =X That’s a really nice hotel gym!

I am a total treadmill hater! Running to the music sounds great though. I totally need to give that a shot when I am lacking in motivation.

  7. I’m not near the treadmill lover you are, but I do have to say it makes my day when I go to a hotel and they have an awesome workout room… especially if there’s a big free weight selection (since my tiny apartment gym doesn’t have much to choose from).

That’s exactly me! My husband and i take turns because we have kids, but any chance to add variety to a workout we take.

  9. Run to the music? How cool!

  10. haha i love the hotel breakfast too!! they usually always have the best buffet ever.
mm that lemon bar sounds really good for summer :)

I feel so-so about the treadmill. It’s great to have in the winter, and I love walking uphill on the treadmill for a good change up work out, but I much prefer running outside when weather permits!

  12. I hate the dreadmill now. I used to live it until I started running outside. The only thing that I do like about it, is that it makes doing HIIT runs really easy, well, easy as in timing and speed. I have some podcasts that are based on beats per minute and the same DJ also put together mixes for building up to longer runs so it’ll be faster for x amount of time, then slow down for x amount of time, that sort of thing.

  13. I have a love/hate relationship with the treadmill. I usually hate it because I’d rather run outside, but I do love the ability to have a water bottle next to me (and not have to carry it or wear my fuel belt) and to run intervals/HIIT or something like that. And I love that I can still run even if it is pouring rain outside or freezing cold in the winter.

I love to run to the music, which is why I like to run outside. I can switch up the pace when the songs change.

  14. treadmills are great for really knowing your speed and tempo. I love catching my morning news and sports highlights, helps the time go by….but nothing beats a long run outside. Breaks the monotony.

  15. I like to match my workout intensity to music too!

By the way, if you end up catching a movie I’d suggest seeing Inception over Eclipse. I saw both and wish I could take back the two hours of my life lost at Eclipse and go see Inception again.

  16. Robyn says:

I totally used to go faster as each song was over and changed to the next one haha. Whatever keeps you going, right?

  17. rc1001 says:

Enjoy your workout! I guess I am spoiled in that I’ve had a gym membership for a long time, (had one in college through my student fees and the last 1.5 years I’ve been a paying gym member) but I like that someone in this world can look at a treadmill and get excited!

To me it means it is too hott/rainy/horrible outside to run there. It is a backup usually. Maybe I should quit looking at it that way!!

  18. Michelle says:

That’s a really cool idea for a workout! I noticed that I naturally run faster to fast songs and slower to slow songs, but I never thought of the idea of making it a work out.

  19. biz319 says:

What a great idea! I hate treadmills because they are boring, but if I toggled between slow and fast, that might be more fun – thanks for the idea!

  20. Faith says:

Running to the music is such a motivating way to work out (I get so into it, lol!)! Hope you have a wonderful time!

  21. I have no problems with a treadmill, but it’s been ages since I’ve used one. Never tried “run to the music”, but I might have to create a playlist for RunKeeper to try it. :-) I’m just now reading Eclipse and have not seen the movie yet.

  22. I am a treadmill hater BUT when I am on it, music is a must! I actually just bought a new MP3 player and am trying to put together a good playlist!

  23. I agree, I love the treadmill occasionally. I do play with HIIT and other speed work when I am in the mood. The treadmill can be fun too!

  24. Joanne says:

I think it’s been almost two years since I’ve been on a treadmill…I’m an outdoor runner all the way! I do love HIIT though and now that I can’t run, I stationary bike or elliptical to the music all the time!

  25. treadmill = makes my knees, ankles, feet, etc just thinking about it!! would rather walk outdoors in -40F than run on a ‘mill! But glad you like it and you got to use it!

  26. Joanne says:

I much prefer running outside. But have to do the treadmill since I am an AM runner and sometimes it’s too dark and creepy for me to go outside at the start of my run.
I’ve never heard of “run to the music”. Interesting.
