Sensible and Delicious and Fun

Thank you for all of your supportive and encouraging words about my confession.

You have made me feel so good and I know I can sensibly shed the few pounds in no time.

One thing that I did not put down on my list to help me lose the weight is to be less social.  Lately it seems Bill and I have been social butterflies and that has NOT been good for my waist line.  Unfortunately we will have to cut back on our gatherings for a while too.

So speaking of sensible, last night we created a delicious and sensible-to-the-waist-line dinner.

Steamed Spinach:

Barley:

Broiled Salmon:

Sensible and Delicious!

And today I have a Monday Funday Giveaway!

You might remember a while back, Newman’s Own Organics sent us a huge box of goodies.  Well we have been enjoying them throughout the weeks but I stowed a few things away for a fun blog reader giveaway.

This is what you will win:

Mint Chip Cookies, Orange Dark Chocolate, Ginger Mints

  2. Kathleen says:

The social aspect can be the most challenging. For me it is plan, plan plan, if I don’t then I won’t!

  3. The social aspect is definitely where I stumble. Lots more drinking and deserting than if I were just eating at home!

  4. The orange chocolate looks interesting! Social events are a killer for me too–I always indulge in too many appetizers and wine :)

  5. biz319 says:

I have never even tried barley before – looks good! Don’t enter me in your contest since I am diabetic.

Happy Monday – and hooray for only 9 more working days! Woot!

  6. melanie says:

the chocolate with the n circle reminds me of vw emblem. it is s good design. yes, i agree about the social aspect, however, i am so glad you two have been “too” social. it has been great getting to know you!

one time i had a dinner party and didn’t serve dessert because i knew that all of us didn’t really need it. this ended up being a mistake as everyone talked about dessert for awhile. after that i thought of serving a simple fruit salad with some cinnamon, just a little something sweet- and healthy.

  7. Good work with the spinach- when I’m feeling like I’ve been splurging, it’s one of my go-to’s!

  8. Only 9 days? That’s something to look forward to for sure!

I’d love to win your goodies ;)

  9. Cindy says:

  12. actorsdiet says:

good luck with your week and thanks for sharing your goodies with us!

  13. Mmm… I hope I win this one!

It’s funny, lately I find myself eating LESS when I am social. I find that hanging out with friends and family “fills me up” in other ways and I tend to eat less when I’m around them. Strange how it affects each of us differently.

  14. melanie says:

ps- i really hope i win this giveaway! so fun!

  15. Patty says:

It would be great to win some Newman’s, thank you!

  16. I would love to win the Newman prize, I love all of their products!!!

  17. Kelly says:

    Wow…that dinner looks amazing!

  18. delicious dinner! and salmon is great for the waistline.

  19. Judi says:

Oooh my kid would love these (and I would too)!

  20. I understand about being social, there’s always sinful food temptations at parties that I struggled with a lot before going raw vegan. It became easier to skip party foods especially since most weren’t vegan. :-P Now I either avoid it or bring a raw goodies.

Great giveaway, thanks for the opportunity!

  21. *Andrea* says:

i gained quite a few lbs too during senior week at college graduation (there was champagne, beer, cookies, chips and cakes everywhere!!).. i think if we set our minds to it – with healthy exercise and mindful, clean eating – we can lose it quickly :)

i’ve never tried orange dark chocolate but it sounds so good!!

  22. Michelle says:

Your barley looks so creamy and delicious! What do you put in it?

  23. Being too social always brings a few extra pounds for me–it’s hard!

  24. Joanne says:

Newman’s has great products. My favorite are the Hermit Cookies.

  25. rc1001 says:

Only 9 days left! I am so so so jealous.

The only end in sight for working for me is whenever I have a baby. And who knows when that will be!

Maybe I should have been a teacher ;)

  26. That looks like a great dinner! I can eat fish in any form, but it looks good with the barley.

Women should eat spinach for iron (I am anemic) and also spinach is good for men’s um, reproductive health…. lol

  27. runrettarun says:

My clothes are getting tight too. I have been indulging a bit too much! I usually watch what I eat and desserts always do me in so I try to limit those for special occasions. Salt is also my frenemy!

  28. Your summer is almost here!!! I’m sure your pants will fit perfectly again in no time!

  29. Lindsay says:
