What is Your Excuse?

Picture this:

Came home from work today feeling tired and unmotivated.

Conjured up my excuse list in my mind why NOT to run:

  • too cold and dreary outside
  • tired and sore
  • want to drink wine by the fire
  • look terrible in my running shorts

Then started to think of reasons why to run:

  • perfect running weather-not too hot
  • have a 5K coming up
  • will enjoy my wine even more if I am drinking it after a run
  • may start to look better in running shorts if I run more ;)
  • Bill is riding 40 hilly miles in this weather
  • so many other bloggers bust out major mileage everyday
  • Sara and Khrystle raced two days this weekend

Suddenly my reasons not too to run looked pretty pathetic.

So I ran!

Not too fast-not too far-but I did it :)

Guess what?

Wine does taste better after a run.

What is your excuse?

  1. I love this post…it was exactly how I was feeling today. Wine definitely tastes better after a good workout and your legs look great in running shorts by the way!

  2. Great post!

I have never regretted going for a run! Sometimes it is just what we need ;)

  3. Love it – totally agree that wine is better after a workout ;-)

  4. Perfect! This is why your blog is such a great blog to read. Inspiring AND Motivating.

  5. You rock! I know sometimes I really have to push myself out the door, and I have to list my pros and cons.

Wine does taste better after a run that’s for sure.

  6. I never press snooze – but I did today! Thankfully it was just a one hour fun walk and talk with my neighbor, but still it was 5:20 a.m. when the alarm went off!

Kudos to you! Have a great night! :) Oh, and the morel mushrooms tasted scrumptious! Very flavorful!

  7. Woo!! Good for you, you should be proud.

  8. That is such a great list! That’s a really cool way to gain motivation :)

  9. Ummm yes it does. It also makes you tipsy faster if you exercise beforehand! (Did I really just say that to the world?)

  10. Weather was crummy here today to! So I hit the treadmill :)

  11. I’m tired.
But I will feel better after I just get started.

    and I do :)

  12. Yay you! I usually think about how crappy I’ll feel if I don’t go, and dreading that feeling usually gets me out the door

  13. yay! good for you for getting your run on!!! also, wanted to tell you i got the giveaway bars – they are delicious and both my hubby and i are so grateful!

  15. okay,, it is snowing out and accumulating no less… no lie! I did my urban rebounder for 30 min. instead.. LOVE it!!

  16. First of all, from the pictures I’ve seen on here, you look awesome in your running shorts :P

I often go through lists like this but I know I’ll always feel better if I just go…the wine will be there waiting for me when I return.

  17. I love that you talked yourself in to going for that run. The mind and the spirit are two of our strongest muscles.

  18. Good for you. I had the same problem this morning but my “just do it” list didn’t look as long. It was quite simply my mental desire to eke out 14 overcame my physical lack of desire. It was AWFUL and I didn’t enjoy it at all. Not any one of the miles.

Good for you that you felt good and did it.

  19. i felt the same way last night. was going to be stuck on the tread and i simply hand no motivation. but i mustered every bit of strength i had, pounded out five miles, then poured a nice cabernet and sat by my pool savoring every sip and knowing i felt better for having pushed through and not given into the zillion excuses i could have come up with. good for you for doing the same!

  20. I suddenly feel shitty for not getting out of bed to do cardio this morning :(

  21. Same scenario.
    My excuses were:
    - I woke up 4am
    - I had 3 hours of sleep
    - I already missed Monday’s workout

But then I got to thinking about it and since I wanted to conquer going to the gym 4x a week, every week in April – I needed to go today in order to make up for Monday and c’moooooonnn I can do it.

I hope I don’t fall asleep first though.

  22. I ALWAYS think to myself “I can always workout tomorrow”!! But I have learned that I can say that and push my workouts out of the way for far too long. So, now I do what you do!! I try setting weekly goals, one of them being working out 5 times a week.

  23. yeah, some days being TIRED is hard to get over.

by my plans: A, B, C and even D are REALLY helping me stay moving!

I had the BEST RUN EVER yesterday, at lunch (plan c) on the TM.

    BEST I SAY.

good for you! glad you did it!

  24. Tired days aren’t fun, but conquering them and working out anyway feels amazing!

  25. Way to go! Sometimes it’s so hard to decide if you really need rest or are just ducking out of a workout. I’m having a ‘do I have to exercise?’ week so this is a very timely post to read.

  26. My excuse yesterday was shin pain. But I got on the bike.

I have been having more and more evenings like that. I just don’t want to do anything when I get home anymore. I don’t know what my problem is!

  27. you are tough…i give up and go with the wine…;)…maybe one day i’ll balance it all out…right now i’m tired of beating myself up for it…good job for you though girl!

  28. I like this post! Well written.
