Am I Healthy?

I often wonder if the foods I choose to eat everyday are as healthy as I think they are.

Do you ever wonder that?

There are so many conflicting facts and studies out there that sometimes you have to wonder, “Am I Healthy?”

Lately, I have been visiting blogs that have been talking about NuVal.

NuVal is a nutritional company that rates foods on a 1 to 100 scale based on their “healthfulness.”

If you read Tina’s blog, you might have heard of NuVal.

I was lucky enough to get contacted by Melissa from A Better Bag of Groceries to rate some of my food.  Today she rated my Green Monster Shake so please head on over and check it out!  I wonder what it got rated as?!

Speaking of Green Monsters I have had a break from then lately, instead of I have been revisiting my dear beloved oatmeal.

It is tough to make oatmeal in the morning for me though because I am always in such a rush in the mornings.

  • Must blog
  • Walk Pepsi
  • Get ready for work
  • Walk to work

I thought I would share with you how I make my oats so I can take them nice and hot with me to work.

I put everything into the saucepan-steel cut oats, apples, bananas, pinch of salt, and cinnamon:

Set the stove top temp to about a 4 and head out to walk Pepsi.  By the time I get back they are cooked!

Then I put the oats in a Tupperware and add some raisins and I am good to go to eat my breakfast at my desk :)

How do you make your oats when you are in a rush?

Oh I just remembered it is April 1…….

Have a Happy April Fool’s Day!

Tonight I am meeting Khrystle for our hill workout. Can’t wait to see what she has under her sleeves for me :)

See you later gators!

  1. I crock pot them on Sunday for the whole week so they are ready to go ALWAYS!

  2. Oh, I’m always in a rush. I’ve thought about trying overnight oats. But really, they take about 7 min. So I cook them while reading my email, putting away the dishes, putting my shoes on, etc. in the morning.

Haven’t had oats in awhile though. It’s about time to get back to them (been on a homemade bread kick).

  3. I have a fridge, microwave, and coffee maker in my classroom. The fridge, micro, and cm in the teacher work room disgusts me. (I wonder if those same teachers leave that kind of muck on stuff at home?! I found oj in the fridge in Feb. that expired in Sept! It was no longer orange!) Anywho ~ I can warm up my breakfast at work or keep my lunch cold. I hope this policy doesn’t change as I have heard of districts that don’t allow such “luxuries”. I let my firsties store their snacks in there if they want. My rule is no junk food in the classroom so some kiddos bring fruit or cheese sticks. Believe it or not, I get parent complaints that I don’t allow their kids to eat candy bars or cookies for their morning “brain food”. What is this country coming to?

  4. Keith and I make a big batch in the crockpot every Sunday so we have them on hand during the week. We do steel cut oats and experiment with the flavors…this week we did cinnamon raisin. YUM!

  5. I usually make a pot of them at a time and keep them in the fridge for those mornings I want oats, then I just reheat them. The steel cut oats take so much longer to cook that it’s just easier that way…because I’m so impatient!

I add my fruit during the re-heating so that I can mix it up if I want to.

Have a great day and a great workout!!
    xoxo

  6. I need to try steel cut oats. I had them once but i dont think I cooked them properly. I am inspired by this post to try again.
    *kisses* HH

  7. I often make oats for a few days on a Sunday night…will cook up a big batch of old fashioned oats with some steel cut, maybe a bit of quinoa, raisins and cinammon and then divide up for 3 or 4 breakfasts. I usually change up toppings but it means when I’m rushing around like a lunatic in the morning I can just throw on some nuts/blueberries/ ground flax/maple syrup or what have you and take to work to heat up. A big time saver.

    Have a good workout!

  8. I never know when I am going to be in the mood for oats so I have been taking my thermos and putting about a half or 3/4 cup of oats (dry) in there and hot water to cover (hot meaning boiling becasue I have an insta-hot at home) than I add a scoop of applesause (chunky) and some cinnamon. put the top on and when 8 or 9 am comes around, I have my warm oats ready to eat. also I may need to warm them a bit more but they are cooked.

  9. Your oats look super healthy and filling. Breakfast is my favorite meal and I never skip. No matter how early I need to be someplace, I always make sure I have time for breakfast.

  10. I just realized we have the same birthday!

  11. I always microwave my oats. Never lets me down!

  12. I use my instant oats in the microwave! 2 minutes and im done! :) xx

  13. I try my best at eating healthy but there are some things that I like too much to even want to know the
nutritional value. You only live once!

  14. My oats are ready in 2 minutes thanks to the microwave. I don’t like using the micro but sometimes life gets in the way of making breakfast the old fashioned way!

  15. Very interesting, have never been to NuVal before. I do wonder, but no where near as much since cutting processed foods.

For raw oats, I usually soak them overnight. You oatmeal looks awesome!

    Happy April Fool’s Day!

  16. My oatmeal cooks up in about 2 minutes. It’s not nearly as fancy as yours:-) I prefer a scoop of whey protein powder, a half packet of stevia and a sprinkle or two of cinnamon. As for being healthy on the inside, it really matters what you’re eating. As for all the contradictory information out there in the media, my motto is to keep reading labels. If there are too many ingredients and a plethora of items that end in sucralose, malodextrin etc I steer clear of them. I’ve seen your meals….you are healthy!

  17. I wonder ALL the time if what I’m eating is really healthy. But I try to brush the thoughts aside and just go with it. I don’t want to stress about what I eat all the time.

  18. i usually make the oats, then throw them in a container and take them togo!! or if I am REALLY in arush I make overnight oats, and just grab it out of the fridge in the morning!

    your oats look SO GOOD!

  19. Would you mind posting your recipe for the oats? I never want to make them in the morning because I don’t want them to get cold either, but since your method works so well…. :)

  20. I feel pretty healthy now. Sometimes I think “this isn’t as healthy as I want it to be” but if I have a question about a food, now I just research it. This is still a new feeling for me, so no need for me to preach. But I think we intuitively know. And if we don’t, we should go figure it out.
