Sister Day is fast approaching and I could not be happier.
Sister Day is a day my sister and I have made up.
It is the day we designate for both of our birthdays. We take the Friday off closest to the day of our actual Birthday and we plan fun events for that day.
This Friday is our Sister Day for my Birthday.
Can’t wait……my sis has lots of fun things planned : )
Here is a bit about my sis:
- She is seven years older than me.
- We have always been super close.
- She has always been my biggest supporter and cheerleader (I am lucky!)
- She is a Sagittarius.
- She is very driven-always excelling in everything she does.
- And she spreads unconditional love and warmth to those around her (she would literally give you the clothes off her back if you asked her).
On Thanksgiving 2008, she embarked on a journey to get healthy. She was tired, overweight, and having some intestinal problems. She was ready to make a change.
This is a picture from Sister Day of that year (2008):
She decided to make small changes in her life. Substituting fish for meat and salads and fruit for eggs and bread.
The weight started falling off.
She felt better.
She had more energy.
Her intestinal problems disappeared.
Now she eats a mostly raw, vegetarian diet with the exception of some fish and chicken occasionally.
This is Sister Day last December (2009):
And this is the most recent picture I have of us (February 2010):
She has lost a total of around 80 pounds or so the “right” way. She made changes in her diet she can live with forever.
I am so proud of her.
Not only is she thinner but she is healthier and happier and that is what matters most.
Can’t wait to see what Sister Day has in store for us this year!

Wow, that is awesome and SO inspiring! I can see why you are proud of your sister. And I can say neither one of you looks even close to your age.
Wow, great story! Have fun on your Sister Day
I love this!!
My sister and I have birthdays 2 weeks apart and we always celebrate with a date right in between the two! I am 4 years older than her and we are very close also.
You are both beautiful and her story is so inspiring! Thanks for sharing it with us! I can’t wait to see what fun you have on Sister Day!
xoxo
Major congratulations to your sister! She looks fabulous!
you two are gorgeous! how lucky you are to have a sis to share good times with!
JEALOUS!!!
good for your Sister making healthy changes! it’s the only way to go!
Happy almost birthday!
Oh my gosh!!!! I totally did not expect this.
Everyone should know that my sister’s modeling (the authoress and goddess of this blog) and loving acceptance of me has encouraged me to continue my healthful living plan. I am so lucky to surround myself with loving, kind, and supportive family: Sister and her hubby (my brother) and my most fantastic husband.
When I made the determination to “fix” myself because I did NOT want to have surgery, and, when my doctor informed me my weight was a “soft problem” compared to my presenting condition, I never looked back. I am very lucky to have had the medical wisdom and support of my doctor; though, he returned to China to heal the sick and suffering there. By the way, I didn’t set out to lose weight; my goal was to make the pain go away. In the process I’ve figured out what food my body needs to funtion at optimum capacity, pain free.
I do not want to be sick. I do not want my organs to be in pain. I do not want to accelerage aging. I am determined to live the next (nearly) 50 years of my life healthfully and joyfully, having discovered that nature’s bounty is the only medicine I need. No more pain and I am going on 15 months of organ-protection, aka, healthful living.
What’s next? A tatoo and I’m looking forward to getting on my beach cruiser and feeling fun and frisky.
But first, Seester Day!!! Woo-hoo.
Wow that’s great about your sister!! I have a sister who is 12 years younger than me (I am 27 so that makes her 15) and we are SUPER close as well. I love the idea of “sister day” that’s so cute!!!
I hope you girls have a blast on Friday. Your sister looks fabulous! So do you:-)
Weather is gorgeous today. Going to play tennis later:-).
xxooo
How fun! Sister day sounds wonderful!
My sister is 6 years younger but unfortunately we are not really that close
Good for her for making healthy choices and losing weight the right way!
Your sister is gorgeous and is amazing! Congratulations to her on her 80 pound loss, seriously what an accomplishment!
Sister Day sounds like a fabulous idea…and Geoffrey’s is the perfect place!! I love that restaurant. I think I will establish a Brother-Sister Day soon and make my brother take me out so we can spend quality time together. And he can pick up the check.
It’s wonderful having a sister who is your best bud as well. My sister and I are like that and we work together 8 hours x 5 days a week.
Have fun on Sister-Day.
That’s brilliant! I do something similar with my sis.
What gorgeous pics. Well done to your sis for listening to her body and nurturing it.
I love this story! Thank you for sharing!
That’s so nice that you guys are so close. I’ve always wanted a sister, so I could do awesome things like have a Sister Day! You both are such beautiful ladies
And sister’s story is very inspiring.
it is inspiring!
That’s awesome, I love that you’re so close and great pics! I need a sister day with my two older sisters! So cool and inspiring about her journey to better health.
Happy Birthday Sisters! Have a great time on Sister Day.
I wish my mom would jump on the bandwagon the way your sister did. She tries for a few weeks, and then goes back to Slim Fast and junk food. I keep telling her it’s as simple as not eating things developed in a lab, and she loves seeing me at the size I’m at, and she’s a cancer survivor – but to no avail… You can only motivate someone so much, and then they have to have an epiphany themselves I suppose.
Wow- what an amazing story! I’m so happy to hear that you two are so close and maintain such a strong relationship! And your sister is absolutely beautiful and such an inspiration! I love that she took it one step at a time and found her own path to a healthy, happy goal. Amazing!
You two look so gorgeous in those photos- so vibrant! Enjoy your special day!!!!
We all share March birthdays, that is so cool since March is a big birthday month. You both look amazing and both of you are inspiring. Congrats.
I hope it is not too late to reply to EVERYONE and say what a thrill it was to read your comments and I so want to acknowledge all of you and your support.
Thank you so much! The words cannot adequately convey how touched I was today. I will always remember this when tempted by something quick and un-nutritious (loved the description, “developed in a lab”). I raise my sprouts, wheatgrass, fruits and veggies to you and say, “here’s to life”.
wow, you both are so stunning! I love the idea of sister day!
My sister and I are also 7 years apart (I am the older……) and we just started getting along when she was in high school and I was out of the house! haha.
I am so happy for your sister, she look freaking wonderful!
XXOO
i always wanted a sister!!!
First of all: So lovely to stumble upon your blog!
Second: I LOVE you & your sister’s story! My sis and I are best friends and I wouldn’t know what to do without her.

Love that story! What a great idea to do with your sister. If only everyone would realize that lifestyle trumps diets every time! Thanks for the post.
What a great story! Hopefully other people will learn from her example of making changes that will stay for a lifetime. Sister’s really are the best. Enjoy your sister day!
