A Revelation

Last night while I was looking up my results for the 5K I completed yesterday I had a revelation.

This was the last race I would do as  a “thirty something” girl.

Yikes…….

The Big 4 0 is looming on the horizon and fast approaching.

I know my blog is called Fit and Forty Something and you might be thinking, “Hey I thought she was forty!”

Well I created this blog on January 1 to help me get used to the idea that I was soon to be (sooner rather than later) a forty something gal.  I was hoping this blog would make the  transition to being forty a little less painful.

This Friday is the BIG DAY when I finally put on my big boy pants and face the world as an adult.

Yes this Friday is my 40th Birthday-gulp.

No more “thirty something” races.  The next race I do will be as my forty-year old self.

I think I am ready……..

Back to the race:

I got 6th place and my official time was 25:24!!!

I can assure you that was not me-I have never run that fast.

Or maybe it was me running away from the Big 4 0!

What birthdays have been significant for you and why?

On to some food:

We had a great Curried Lentil dish made with onions, garlic, tomatoes, light coconut milk, lentils, and curry.  I will post the recipe soon.

I served it in half a butternut squash and topped it with Brussel sprouts and cashews:

It was delicious!

Have a great Monday my friends : )

Congrats on the great race and Happy Birthday. I have never flet better than I have since turning 40. I now have 3 years experience at being in my 40′s and I must say, I LOVE IT. Welcome to Master’s running. :)

Congratulations on the run. That is fantastic! The day I turned -0 I ran 8 miles:-). It’s still hard to write it!!! :-)
What are you and Billy doing for your Birthday? Forty was great for me. Just have fun and do everything you want to do from now on:-) It goes fast now:-(
      love you
      xxooo

  2. A big CONGRATS on running an awesome race!!! :D

  3. Marcia says:

Happy Birthday! That was a GREAT time. I’d love to do a 5k that fast. Maybe someday.

I have two more races (10 miler and a half marathon) as a thirty-something myself. Big 4-0 in June. I’m looking forward to it!

When I was 30, I weighed somewhere in the vicinity of 180 lbs. Yikes. I’m in the best shape of my life, allowing for the creaks, sore hips, etc.

  4. Christy says:

All of the women I know have become better runners as they get older. So you will be kicking some more butts soon!!! I will be 30 this year…..it feels weird to say that. I kinda thought I’d be in my 20s forever :)

  5. Christine says:

Congrats on the race – that’s a great time!

I agree running gets better in your 40s it’s only the hangovers that get worse. :)

  6. Bernadette says:

Wahhhooooo!!! I’m jumping up and down over Christy’s comment!! older and faster- I’m IN!

Well my friend, since we share a birthday I will say this, I am turning 45 this year and have not yet had a birthday where I felt I was OLD. I honestly have felt better with each birthday ( at this point it could be senility ) I hope this birthday is no different.

And I am still in awe over your 5k time!!! You never even did your speed training with Khrystle did you?? WOW.

    Have a great monday!!
    xoxo

  7. Congrats on an awesome race, and an awesome age! You’re looking great!

  8. Wow, really?! Not 40? What a great idea to get yourself “prepared” by basically already turning 40..in the blog world :) Maybe I’ll do that too! I have not yet reached any huge age milestones, and I’m not worried about 30 either. I don’t like to think about age, as I tend to just go with how I feel, and I feel 16! :)

Congrats on your last 5k as a 30 year old! And I’m sure there will be many more to come.

  9. A few years ago I was working at a school in Maine and my coworker Ross had his wife drop him off 40 MILES from the school so he could RUN into work that day! 40 sure can be incredible! Also, you look fabulous and I’m certain no one would peg you as a 40 something!

That is an amazing time!! I am about to be 42 in a couple weeks – while I don’t mind my age – it’s my daughter turning 18 that had me freaking out a bit!

Since my daughters birthday is the 7th and mine is the 19th, I like to spread out my birthday celebrations all month – except when I have to step on the scale April 1st! :D

  11. Congrats on the race, and awesome time!! I’m in my 20′s and I haven’t come close to that time! haha. My most significant birthday has been turning 21, I can legally drink vino ;)

  12. Dang, that is a fast time! 40 isn’t so bad :D

I am in better shape in my 40s that I was in my 20s! The nice thing is that you are in a new age group for races, so here is your chance to pick up first place :D

  13. kilax says:

Awesome 5K and happy early birthday!

I guess I haven’t had too many significant birthdays. Maybe the next one will be! :)

  14. Yay for 40, own it! Have a fantastic birthday week (or month!) I am actually turning 30 on March 20, and I am SO excited! I love getting older, I have never felt better!

  15. Congratulations on the run!! You are such a rockstar!
And I can’t believe your bday is Friday!! So exciting. I think that 40 will only bring you the best things. You are so wonderful and full of life, you’ll embrace this time and accomplish all your goals, I just know it!
    Beautiful and delicious dinner!
    Have a great Tuesday love!

  16. Ameena says:

I am being 100% honest when I say this…you don’t look a day over 29. If I can look as great as you when I’m 39 I will consider myself very lucky!!

Congratulations on your race. I love how active a life you and your husband live!

  17. Micheline says:

I’m looking forward to your birthday, lil sis, and to you joining me in the 40′s. You can run any 20 year old into the ground! No offense to the whipper-snappers out there; this is the big sis talking :)

  18. That’s a great race time! I’m not sure if this helps any, but turning 30 didn’t freak me out a bit, but as I too edge closer to 40 I find it completely frightening. However, I totally believe in the generic saying that “age is just a a number.”

  19. Congrats on the amazing race time! I think you’ll make 40 look fab, no worries :-) I think when you’re living healthy and active, actual age is pretty meaningless. If you were put in Dr. Oz’s truth tube, you’re physical age would probably be much, much younger :-)

  20. Awesome race time!

31 felt kind of traumatic to me. Not sure why but it was. I have a feeling 35 is going to be tough next year.

  21. Joanne says:

Congrats on the race and happy birthday! Awesome time.

I love using winter squash as a bowl for soups and stews! I can’t wait to see the recipe for the lentil stew you wrote about. It sounds like something I would really enjoy!

  22. Khrystle Rae says:

Great job on the race! I was pretty proud of us! :)

I baked your vegan energy bars again yesterday, using cranberries instead of raisins. Mmmm. They’re amazing. Thanks again for sharing your recipes.
