Yesterday I left work early to head to a doctor’s appointment.
This was my follow-up from my last appointment where I gave blood for a nutritional panel.
My doctor is a Medical Doctor but she tends to lean towards a Holistic approach to medicine-believing that many “aliments” can be caused and therefore treated by deficiencies in your blood specifically vitamin and nutrient deficiencies.
I found out that I am deficient in:
- magnesium
- selenium
- zinc
- vitamin D
Here is my course of treatment for now:
She also recommended some other things like:
- eat a bit of protein as soon as you wake up to “break the fast” and then have coffee
- DRINK MORE WATER-so hard when you are a teacher and can only use the bathroom at certain times!
- cut back on the refined carbs-duh-I know…..easier said than done
I am a work in progress…… : )
Then I came home to this face:
And had a gorgeous salad beast with my husband.
The star of the show:
Not as good as the last egg white salad. Probably would not buy this one again.
Walked Pepsi.
And hit the hay.
Hope you had a great Hump Day!
Do you ever wonder if you are taking vitamins that you do not even need?

Awwww that face is soooo adorable- Love that Pepsi!!
I used to take Vitamin supplements but never really felt any differently when I took them so I stopped.
Once again, your salad is to die for!!
xoxo
Pepsi is adorable! The only deficiency I knew I had was vitamin D. That’s when I lived in AK and we had the dark dark winters. So I started taking vitamin D supplements and got acupuncture. I loved it!!! I’m trying to find a good holistic doctor.
A good holistic doctor is hard to find.
Cute dog!
I wonder less about deficiency and more about the efficacy of what I’m taking….especially Glucosamin/Chondroitin/MSM…I’ve heard conflicting reports – one side says this is THE answer to joint pain, the other that it’s hokum and doesn’t work.
I find I’m pretty bad with taking vitamins regularly anyway. Good for a few weeks…bad for a few.
Aaaawwww- Pepsi. I just want to give her (him? – forgot?) a big hug.
As for vitamins I take and don’t need – oh yeah. I’m sure I overload and they simply go thru my system with out notice but hey – better safe than sorry as long as the overload isn’t getting into toxic levels.
By the way – welcome to the Vit. D club. In the N.E., we are all deficient – such a bummer.
I am glad I am in good company!
I’m still looking for a skin lotion with magnesium in it. Supposedly, this is a really good way for your body to absorb it. I’ve found it on the internet but haven’t seen it in stores yet.
Oh yeah, protein is good to start the day with!
I know I am deficient in probably 5 different vitamins but I don’t have time to go to the doctor and deal with a bunch of tests…that is usually my last priority!!
Usually it is my last priority too but I have not been feeling well for about 2 years.
I KNOW I’m taking vitamins I don’t need. I get so much vitamin A in my diet, I really don’t need it in mulitivitamin form too.
Do you know about what you’re deficient in because you had a blood test done? I haven’t had one in so long. It would be interesting to see what I’m deficient in.
Yes a blood test…..it was a specific nutritional test. Very cool!
I am awful and I don’t even take a multivitamin. I guess I’m doing okay because I haven’t even had a cold in about a year (knocking on wood as I type this!)
You are super human girl!
i’m sure i oversupplement…
I love pepsi! Such a good baby!
My grandma use to swear by vitamins. She was such a health nut so before her time and before it was trendy! I’ve tried to take vitamins, but feel lost in the world of vitamins…i usually get lost in sea of vitamins at Lassens. I never know what to take…where to start…and everytime I turn around there’s another article about the next best vitamin to take!
I understand the bathroom issue! No potty breaks for preschool teachers either.
Ooo I’m with you on the deficiencies. I am severely low on Vitamin D and have to take prescription strength horse pills for it. And I’m also low on iron. But I also am always worried that I’m not getting enough of the variety of vitamins and minerals that my body needs so I take a daily multi and a dose of Vitamin B-12 (another deficiency). But I love that you’re so proactive and conscientious about your health! Way to go!
And I still need to get my hands on that egg salad from earlier this week that you had!
Have a great Friday, my dear!
Wow, 2000 IU of vitamin D?! I guess that’s the typical treatment for low vitamin D, these days. My own mother (age 55) started taking that same pill when her doctor told her she was low. I should probably get some labs done, but I might get mad if I find out I am deficient in something ! I don’t want to have to take anything else, I already think the pills I take amount to a bit too much (vitamin D, flintstone vitamin, fish oil).
The salad looks yummmmy! Have a great weekend!
Practically everyone is deficient in Vitamin D.
Seriously. Especially if you live in the Northern Hemisphere, during much of the winter months. And supplements (and the sun during the summer) are really the only ways that our body can fully absorb what it needs, which I’ve always found really crazy and interesting.
Pepsi is just way too cute as always.
I am sure I couldn’t do the Green Monster, but the pasta — that’s another story. Your creations look amazing! Bring on the hummus…on veggies, crackers, pita…and even pasta, which I’ll have to try sometime.
My kids completely approve of the name of your dog. Loyal Pepsi fans they are!
