I have taken probiotics for about 2 years now. I have always been SUPER confused about what brand to buy and how many to take per day.
Probiotics are a type of living bacteria that actually benefit your health when taken in the right amounts.
Probiotics are known to help with many things. Specifically these bacteria (in the probiotics) act as balancing agents for bacteria such as Candida or E. coli. When the “good-guys” are not present enough, a number of bacteria-related health problems such as digestive upset, headaches, sluggishness, irritability, candidiasis (an overgrowth of the bacteria Candida albicans), and even anxiety can ensue.
I had no idea an imbalance could contribute to anxiety? Did you?
I started taking probiotics for two main reasons:
- overgrowth of candida
- possible immune system booster (being a teacher leaves me VERY vulnerable)
I was always unsure which pills to buy and just recently starting buying a cheap Trader Joe versions. I have a feeling this was NOT a quality supplement.
Now I take probiotics in two forms:
- my beloved amazing grass and
- this new version I got from my doctor last Friday:
I think I like them.
I think I “feel” them working.
What about you? Do you take probiotics? Why or why not? And what kind do you recommend?

Hmmm that is interesting about the anxiety… I have never heard that before either.
I don’t take probiotics but I did ‘discover’ Kambucha yesterday and have a feeling that will become a regular part of my diet…that stuff was good!!!
Have a great day!
My mom is a firm believer in probiotics and they have been a part of my diet since I was little!
wow that is so cool…….i wonder what your mom knows about them.
I may have to look into that! I have stomach pains. Been tested for gallbladder, ulcers, etc. It may be the extra strong coffee that I love
I have debated on going gluten free….but that’s tough. Maybe the amazing grass that I’ve recently been using will help. Maybe I should try some probiotics??
I fully believe in probiotics. If your gut is not healthy the rest of you can’t be for long.
I am not a big supplement taker (should try and take SOME though)..oh that reminds me to pop a Vitamin D…I do take those! haha
but I used to eat yogurt, or kefir more (So Delicous has a coconut milk kind that I love) and also kombucha tea ..but it’s pricey and I am budgeting these days.
Averie at Love Veggies and Yoga (her link is on my blogroll) is a big promoter of probiotics and I know she has brands she loves. She actually did a post about them a while back…but did I pay enough attention to know the brand?
no
again,… money.
kefir, is probably a good low cost version. and the coconut milk kind is “dairy” free if you (not YOU but YOU in general) needs that.
great food for thought!
have a great day and did you RUN????
let us know!
Organic yogurt eaten occasionally is the ticket for me.
